Japan to invest in 2 SEZs in Bangladesh, pledges more

Japan will be investing in two Special Economic Zones in Bangladesh, all the while promising that more investment of the leading Asian economy will come into the country. The two Special Economic Zones are in Narayanganj’s Araihazar upazila and Chattogram’s Mirsarai upazila, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said after holding a meeting with Japanese Ambassador Hiroyasu Izumi at his office on February 14, 2019.

The investment is coming in the 100 Special Economic Zone project (SEZ) taken up by the administration of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to draw more investment into the country. “Japan is an old friend. Our trade relations go way back. We are grateful to Japan for deciding to invest in the two Special Economic Zones.

Japanese investors will be confident on the investment climate if they visit Bangladesh,” Minister Munshi said. “Trade visits between the two countries will surely boost business ties among the two countries and will prove to be mutually beneficial,” he said. Japan Ambassador Izumi said: “Ties between Japan and Bangladesh goes way back. Japan is interested to expand this relationship.

Bangladesh is progressing really fast in so many sectors. Japan is happy with its progress. Japan will increase investment in Bangladesh.”
