In modern time eco-friendly textile processing technic are very efficient because in these technic no harm is done to the environment. The processing of fibers and clothing have to go through many stages which are harmful. But it is important to make textile industry more sustainable. All over the world environment considerations are now becoming vital factors .Now a days a wide range of technologies related to textile production have been developed to make it eco-friendly.
„Eco‟ friendly clothing can be termed as a clothing made of natural fibres such as organic cotton and hemp, clothing that has been organically dyed with vegetables or any fabrics that use small amounts of water, energy and chemicals that affect the environment. Any textile product, which is produced in eco-friendly manner and processed under eco-friendly limits, is known as eco friendly textiles. Natural fibres have intrinsic properties such as mechanical strength, low weight and healthier to the wearer that has made them
particularly attractive. Materials canalso be considered as “Eco-friendly” on the basis of various factors:
1) Renewability of the product
2) Ecological footprint of resources – how much land it takes for the full growth of a product
3) Determining the eco friendliness of a product – amount of chemicals required for the production of
products.
Eco friendly fibers are used now a days in textile , such as –
(i)Bamboo fibers : It has natural anti-bacterial properties.the main thing which makes it environment friendly is its renewable property.
(ii) Corn Fibers: Corn is available in both spun and filament forms.
It balances strength and resilience with comfort, softness and drape in textiles. Corn also uses no chemical additaves or surfactant.
So its very much eco friendly.
(iii)Organic cotton: Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture.
(iv) AYURVASTRA:
AYUR VASTRA is a Sanskrit term made up of two words- “AYUR” means “health” & “VASTRA” means “Cloth”, meaning “life cloth”.
Ayurvastra cloth is completely free from synthetic chemicals & toxic irritants & is totally organic, sustainable & biodegradable.
(v) COCONA FABRICS: Cocona is a fabric that is developed from fibrous coconut husks that incorporates natural ingredients
into polymers. By using activated carbon made from coconut shells, Cocona fabric utilizes natural technology that outperforms other
fabrics and yarns. Cocona fibres and yarns can be used in a wide
range of knit and woven fabrics as well as non-woven.
There are many fabrics which are eco friendly and can be used in the textile sector to save our environment from depletion .
